Weaste Allotments & Gardening Association

About Us

Allotments give plot holders a place to grow their own seasonal fresh vegetables and fruit. A full size plot 280 sqm – worked on and weather permitting – can provide enough vegetables and fruit for a family of four throughout the year. The Weaste site also has some half plots. In September, 2022 four small plots with trugs on legs were created in the #BeEasyAccess Project. These are offered to people who would like a small space with higher raised bed access. The allotments are home to hives of bees on several plots – great for helping pollination, a Community Orchard for fruit in summer and autumn, and a Community Shop selling useful things for growing.

Our History

One of 24 Salford Council Allotment sites, Weaste Allotments has been growing since 1917. Allotment community orchard, garden shop, and bees managed by volunteers.

Our Vision

To develop the existing land and communal areas to make a growing space accessible to more in the community. Introducing smaller plots, raised beds or trugs, with supporting accessible facilities.

Our Projects

The allotment site needs to be revised constantly to make it as accessible as practical. From converting one plot, moving the community bees, and up-grading toilets it is all taken forward by volunteers.

Good companions on the plot

Good companions love to be together. In the plant world a good companion can be worth it’s weight in gold. Companion plants usually provide some kind of service to another plant. The good companion will play one or more roles – attractors, deterrents, repellants, sun shades, supports, space sharers and …

Gail Force Winds For Storm Corrie

Storm Corrie is nothing to do with the long running soap that is filmed in our City of Salford. It is however the fourth storm of 2022. Following on the heels of Arwen and Barra which caused so much damage on the plots, Storm Malik nipped in on 29 January. …
