Anticipated: Planning 2022, Build 2022 – 2023

Reason:
Allotment sites are large areas of mud and grass until they are converted into plots. The access road and paths often mud where they wear down. The community facilities can be basic and often hard to access by those with reduced dexterity or mobility.

Allotments are social hubs helping with the local mental health and well-being of Salford residents. There are of course physical health benefits too.

An allotment plot can produce more food per acre than on a farm. So with food poverty on the increase converting land to food production is beneficial to all.

Aim: To improve the infrastructure on the allotment site for easier accessibility for existing and new plot holders. A basic assessment requires many small but costly improvements around the Communal areas. Gate: lock and opening; Hut: access ramp, taps; Entrance: permeable wear-resistant surface, accessible parking space(s); Internal Road: permeable wear-resistant surface; Orchard: accessible seating

How: Project leader required, then team to implement creating schedule of works, the fund raising and over-seeing the work completion.

Where: Communally used areas.

Funding: Once plans are agreed donations and grant funding will be sought.

Discussions will start in 2023 once a team of volunteers from the plot holders is agreed. Up-dates will be available in News and on our Facebook Page using #CommunAbility. If you are able to assist with time, services or donations then please contact us. Thank you.
